The blog will be specially for defenders, but that doesn't mean that if you are not a defender then it is useless. No! I always say this, football is a situation game and it doesn't matter if you are a striker or midfielder. You must know what it is and how it is done.

So to understand offside trap, one must fully understand what is Offside rule! If you are not very well aware of what offside is or have any doubt in this rule then you may check out this article

where I have explained offside rule in detail with proper examples. So I would definitely suggest you to check that article first and then come back here.

So for people who are very well aware of offside rule, let us talk about Offside Trap.

Offside Trap in football easy explanation

Defenders, generally, no matter how many there are, 3-4, form a line type formation around strikers as shown in the diagram. This is, so that just when S2 passes the ball to S1 then defenders, D1, D2, D3 and D4 move foreward from the last defender's position, who is S1 here, so that to make it an offside.
Remember, offside foul is given according to the position of strikers when the ball is passed, therefore to execute offside trap, the decision should also be made before the ball is passed otherwise the trap fails and it puts the team in a risky situation. I will always suggest to execute offside trap only among defenders which are experienced playing together. That is because offside trap is more of a coordination strategy and coordination is best among players who have expirience of playing together.

Generally the defender in the middle takes the decision whether to form an offside trap or not. But that is not always complusory. Any defender can take the decision but he or she has to be very sure about the position of opponent's striker.

Generally what happens is, defenders fail to coordinate and they miss out the opportunity to successfully execute offside trap which results into no offside and hence giving away a lot of space for opponent's striker to run in and putting thier own team at risk.
A shown in the pictures here in first picture when pass was made, the side defenders wanted to form offside trap but due to lack of coordination they failed as the centre defender couldn't understand. Later when he realised he did get back but until the the striker recieved the ball and no offside was given.

Football News:

Real Madrid Won The Club World Cup Final Beating Al-Ain, 4-1

Real Madrid won the club world cup, yet again, by beating Al-Ain, 4-1. Luka Modric was awarded the man of the match as he scored a stunner and assisted the captain, Sergio Ramos from the corner.

When he was asked about his match expierience, he simply said, "I should shoot more." Which is true because of the total goals, Modric has scored for Real Madrid, most of them are scored from out of the box. So yea, he should definitely shoot more.
